Feature Preview: Multiclass Spellcasters
about 5 years ago – Tue, Jan 26, 2021 at 06:59:22 PM

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with multiclassing spellcasters. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Multiclass Spellcasters

Another difficult thing to do is multiclassing with multiple casters. For example, if you were a Wizard/Cleric you would have two different spellcasting abilities. The Wizard uses Intelligence for its spellcasting, and the Cleric uses Wisdom for its spellcasting.

When you multiclass using Squire and navigate to the Spells page, you will be able to select which class you want to manage your spellcasting for. You will be able to assign a spell to a specific class and then when you cast the spell, Squire will know which spellcasting modifier to use because it knows which class the spell was assigned to.

If you don’t want to have to navigate between classes, you can see a combined list of spells by selecting “All” from the dropdown. Doing this will combine the spells from each class into one list. Also, when you select “All” you won’t be able to SEE the spellcasting ability or the attack and save, but the spell itself still knows which class it was assigned to so it will still use the correct modifiers.

If you don’t want to see the spellcasting page for the 2ndclass, you can turn that off. For example, if you multiclassed into a Wizard/Fighter, the fighter doesn’t have spellcasting so you probably wouldn’t want to display that page. To turn that off, open the Spell page menu and select “Settings”.

From here you can unselect the class that you don’t want to display. You can also turn on the spellcasting page for your race, background, and “other”. You might want to do this if your race gave you some innate spellcasting abilities. “Other” can be used for any other scenarios that aren’t standard. If any of these other pages are selected, then they will be added to the dropdown along with your class.

Another thing that can complicate multicasting spellcasters is determining your spell slots. Squire will calculate this for you based on the class caster types. You can create your own caster types too.

Feature Preview: Using Spells
about 5 years ago – Sun, Jan 24, 2021 at 11:41:31 AM

Last feature preview, I showed you how you can create your own custom spells. Now that you have your new spell made, it’s time to use it. Open up your character and navigate to the Spells page.

From here you can click “Add Spells”. You will see a panel slide in from the right listing all of the spells. You can search by name and filter by several different categories.

Clicking on the filter icon will reveal the filters that you can apply.

Click on a spell in the list will reveal the details of the spell.

From here you can click “Add” to select the spell. You can also just check the box next to the spell name in the list if you already know what the spell is and don’t want to do extra clicks. Once the spell is selected, it will highlight yellow.

Clicking “Add” after items have been selected will add the spell to your character and you will be able to see it in your character’s spell list.

Clicking on the spell from your character list will again show the details of the spell. If your character is using a class that requires a spell to be prepared in order to cast it, you will see a prepare button at the bottom of the page.

Another way to prepare spells is by opening the spell page menu in the top right and selecting “Preparation”.

From here you can prepare spells in bulk and you can also see the number of spells you’re allowed to prepare.

Some classes will cause your spells to always be prepared and not count towards your prepared spells count. Spells can be configured this way through the Class configuration screens.

Once the spell has been prepared you will then be able to see the Cast button. You will also be able to choose a slot to cast the spell at. Changing the chosen slot will adjust and damages and modifiers based on how you had the spell configured. If you choose a slot that you don’t have any spell slots for, the cast button will disable.

Clicking on cast will show you the results of the spell. In addition to doing damages and modifiers, casting a spell will automatically use one of your spell slots. If a spell is not instantaneous, then the spell will remain active. “Casting” the spell again while it is active won’t use a spell slot and will allow you to roll the damages again. You can dismiss the spell by opening the spell details and clicking the “Dismiss” button at the bottom.

If you are concentrating on a spell and try to cast another spell that requires concentration, you will be prompted with a warning making sure that you actually want to cast this spell since you can only concentrate on one spell at a time.

If your character’s spell list is getting too long for you, you can apply filters and sorts to the character’s spell list to help you find things easier. You can apply those from the Spell page menu. The filters are the same as the spell selection filters. The sorts allow you to sort by name and level, ascending or descending.

On the next feature preview I will show you how Squire will help you with multi-class spellcasters.

Feature Preview: Custom Spells
about 5 years ago – Wed, Jan 20, 2021 at 09:55:49 AM

This is the first of many feature previews. Today I will be showing you how to create a custom spell and all of its bells and whistles. If you have any questions on any of this or have ideas for improvement, please comment below or join us on Discord and post your comment in the #feature-request channel.

Spell Configurations

Spellcasting can be a difficult thing to handle in RPGs. There are a lot of calculations to be done and they can change based on your character level or the level that you cast them at. One of the major things that Squire helps with is making spellcasting easier for you.

A lot of apps support spellcasting but they only support text. You still have to read the description and do all of the math for yourself. This is not the case with Squire. With Squire the spells are much smarter.

A lot of other apps also only allow certain spells and don’t allow you to add new ones. This is also not the case with Squire. You can add new spells yourself and also make them smart.

To add a new spell, open the home screen menu and select “Spells”.

On the following screen select “New Spell”.

You will be presented with a spell configuration screen. Here you will be able to enter in all of the data that you could ever wish to have. You can enter the name, the level, the school, the casting time, range, area of effect, components, and description.

This is just the start though. On the next section of the configuration screen, you can assign the attack type and the damages/healing associated with the spell. You can even configure it to adjust the amounts based on your character level (if it is a cantrip) or slot used.

For those of you that are familiar with the Android app, you’ll know that spells didn’t use to store the damages on them. Instead, you had to create a “Quick Attack” to remember the damages. The configuration for the damages on the spells is now similar to the way you would configure them on the Quick Attacks. Also, because the spells now store the damages, you won’t need to create those Quick Attacks in the web app. Instead, you’ll be able to add a spell to your “favorites” list. I’ll go more into that in a later feature preview.

In the third section of the configuration screen, you can assign modifiers to be applied to the target of the spell. For example, you can assign a spell to give you a flying speed.

Once the spell has been saved, you can find it in the spells menu and view its details. From here you can edit, duplicate, and delete it.

Jus to note, the screenshots for these configurations are all on desktop. You can do these configurations on mobile too, but it’s a lot easier to type everything using a full keyboard instead of using the one on your phone.

The next feature preview will be something a little more interesting: using spells. Keep your eyes open for this next update if this sounds like something you’ll be interested in.

We already reached our goal!
about 5 years ago – Wed, Jan 20, 2021 at 08:40:20 AM

Thank you to EVERYONE who made Squire a success so quickly! In less than 15 minutes, we reached our goal to get a decent server that will last us for the first 3 years. I know we'll get more in the coming weeks and because of that I will get a much stronger server that I would've been able to afford on my own. Thank you to everyone so much. This really does mean a lot to me.

Keep an eye out for future updates. I plan on doing small feature reveals every few days. These will go over some of the main features that I would've liked to go into more detail on in the campaign itself, but I didn't want to overload everyone with so much info all at once. These features will include things like spells, features, equipment management, and much more. Feel free to comment on any of these features. If you have suggestions or any other ideas, please share. The more people share, the better Squire will become.
