Feature Preview: Quick Actions
about 5 years ago – Tue, Feb 23, 2021 at 08:19:29 AM

Today we are going to show you how to use Quick Actions. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Quick Actions

When you have all of your spells, features, and items on your character, it can be hard to remember what actions you have at your disposal. For example, if you’ve already used you Standard Action, but still have a bonus action available, it might be hard to remember if you have a feature or spell that you can use. Squire can help with this.

On the Quick Actions page, open the men and select Standard Actions. A panel will slide in revealing all of the weapons, spells, and features that use standard actions. Next to each action is a star icon. Clicking the star icon will mark the action as a favorite action.

Clicking on an action will reveal the same panel as if you had clicked on the weapon, spell, or feature in their corresponding page.

Once an action has been added as a favorite, it will show up on the Quick Actions page. Clicking on an action from this page will do the same as clicking on the action in the actions panel.

You can also filter your actions down Bonus Actions and Reactions by clicking the appropriate item in the Quick Actions menu.

Clicking on Favorite Actions from the menu will show you the full list of actions that you have marked as favorites and will allow you to rearrange them as well as remove them from your favorites.

Feature Preview: Leveling Up
about 5 years ago – Fri, Feb 19, 2021 at 06:53:51 AM

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with leveling up. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Leveling Up

As you use your character, you will be gaining experience points (exp) and your character will get stronger. Squire can help you keep track of this.

To manage your exp, on the character’s Basic page, click on the Level card. Doing so will reveal a panel that allows you to manage your character’s level and exp.

By clicking the ‘-‘ or the ‘+’ button at the top, you can adjust your current level. By clicking the ‘-‘ or ‘+’ button next to the slider, you can adjust your current exp. You can also drag the slider left and right to adjust your exp. Once the slider reaches the far right side, your level will increase by one. You can also type in the current exp value you want to be at in the left input field. Or if you GM tells you that you gained a certain amount of exp, you can put that number in the Adjustment input and your exp will update accordingly.

As you level up, the exp bar on the level card will increase.

If you don’t want to see this bar, you can turn it off through the Misc settings in the character’s Settings panel.

Once you’ve gained enough exp to level up, you will see the option to assign your levels.

Here you can assign a subclass if you haven’t done so already. You can also set your health gain results here. If you had set your character to use Max or Average, then your character’s health gain results will be filled in automatically for you.

If you wish to multiclass, you can do so by clicking on the “Add Class” button.

Doing so will add in a new class option. Here you can use the dropdown to select your new class and subclass as well as assign the health gain results for the new class. Clicking the ‘x’ on the class will remove the class from your character.

Clicking “Save” will persist your changes. Afterwards you will be prompted to select your new features. If you click “Yes” on this prompt, you will be shown which features you can select.

Here you can select all of the features that are applicable to your character at this time.

Some classes have spells that you gain at a certain level. The level up wizard will also help you make sure you get these spells added to your character.

At some levels you can also increase your ability score or select feats. When this happens, you gain another page to allow you to select that.

To increase your ability score, click the gear icon next to Ability Score Increases.

Here you’ll be able to select which abilities to increase.

If you wish to select a feat instead, you can click on the gear icon next to Feat Selection and you will be presented with a full list of the feats that you haven’t already selected. If you are using house rules and are allowed to select abilities and feats, you can disable the validation by clicking the gear icon in the top left of the panel. Here you can adjust the validation settings.

You may have noticed some check boxes saying to “Ignore Unselected Features”. In some scenarios you are supposed to only choose one of your features that you gain at a certain level. In these scenarios you don’t want to be prompted to choose them again at a future level. If that’s the case, then you can check that box and when you run the validation again, those features won’t show up. If you accidentally ignore a feature and want it to show up again, you can reset ALL ignored features from the settings panel.

Once you click “Save”, the spells and features will be added to your character.

If you happen to accidentally close this panel, you can access it again through the character context menu in the top left. Here you can click “Update Character”.

Feature Preview: Wealth and Starting Equipment
about 5 years ago – Tue, Feb 16, 2021 at 08:33:13 AM

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with managing your wealth and selecting your starting equipment. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Wealth Management

One of the main reasons for adventuring is the possibility of riches. Squire will help you manage your character’s wealth, which you can do on the character’s Equipment page.

To adjust your character’s wealth, click on any of the currency cards and you’ll see a panel that will help you adjust your wealth.

If your character looted a dungeon and found some gold, you can input the amount and click “Gain”. Doing so will adjust your wealth accordingly. Clicking “Save” will then make the adjustment permanent.

If you want to convert one currency type to another, you can do so by clicking the “Convert” button at the bottom of the panel. Here you will be able to convert one currency type to another. For example, you can convert your Gold to Platinum to reduce the number of coins you are carrying around.

Clicking “Apply” will adjust the currency as desired. Clicking “Save” will make it permanent.

If there is a currency type that you don’t want to display, or if you want them to display in a different order, you can manage this through the Wealth Configuration screen. You can access this by clicking on the Gear icon in the top left.

If you don’t want to display a currency, you can uncheck the box next to the currency type. For example, if you don’t want to display Electrum, just uncheck that box and it will no longer display on any of the screens.

Starting Equipment

One of the time-consuming aspects of creating a character is selecting your starting equipment. Squire helps with that as well.

Firstly, classes, races, and backgrounds can be configured to know what a character is supposed to have when it is used. On the configuration screen for each of those categories, there is a section called Starting Equipment. From here you can configure what is the default equipment.

Here you can specify the amount of gold that the character would start off with. The user will be able to choose between the gold or the equipment that you specify. Clicking on the plus sign on the group row will add new options. Clicking on the plus sign on the option row will reveal a panel where you can select the items to allow.

Here you can either select a specific item and quantity or a filter. If you choose a filter, the user will be presented with everything that applies to that filter result. For example, if the filter was all simple weapons, then the user would be told to choose one simple weapon.

When the user creates a character using that class, they will be prompted if they want to select their starting equipment.

If they select yes, a panel will show the items that they can select.

For each group, the user will select one option. If the option was a filter, then clicking on the card will show the item selection filtering down the items to only the items that apply to the filter that you had specified in the configuration.

Here they can select one item. Once the user selects the item, the selected item will be displayed on the card.

If the user wishes to use the starting currency instead, the user can select that option at the top of the panel and there they can either roll for the currency, select the max amount, or enter a custom amount

The second page of the Starting Equipment panel shows a summary of the items that the character will gain upon completion.

Clicking save will add the items to the character and those items will be accessible on the character’s Equipment page.

Feature Preview: Equipment
about 5 years ago – Fri, Feb 12, 2021 at 07:17:13 PM

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with creating, purchasing, and using equipment. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Equipment Configurations

With Squire, you can make almost anything that you want for your character to use, and that’s not just limited to spells and features. You can also make custom equipment. From the home screen menu, select Items and then click “New Item” at the bottom to create your own equipment.

From here you will see a configuration screen that will allow you to enter the data for your new item.

You have several choices as to what to create. You can create weapons, armor, gear, tools, ammo, mounts, vehicles, treasure, and packs. The fields used for the configuration will change based on the category that you choose. Once you’ve created the equipment, it will show up in the list of items and you can view the details by clicking on it in the list. From here you will be able to edit, duplicate, and delete it.

Jus to note, the screenshots for these configurations are all on desktop. You can do these configurations on mobile too, but it’s a lot easier to type everything using a full keyboard instead of using the one on your phone.

Purchasing Equipment

To manage your character’s equipment, navigate to the characters Equipment page. From here you will be able to see the items that your character currently has and add new items. At the bottom of the page, you can see your character’s wealth too.

To add items, open the Equipment page menu in the top right and select “Add Items”. From here you will see a page where you can select items to add to your character.

You can filter down the items by clicking on the filter icon or by searching for the item by name.

Once you’ve found the item you want, you can click on it to view the details.

From here you can click “Add” to select it and add it to your “shopping cart”. You can also select it by clicking on the checkbox. When it is selected, it will be highlighted yellow, just like selecting features and spells.

Once you’ve selected the items that you want, you can navigate to the next page by clicking on the right arrow at the bottom of the page. From here you will be able to adjust the quantity of the items that you want or remove items from your cart.

Going to the next page will show you how much your cart costs and you can fill in how much you are going to spend on it.

If you click on the “Match” button, it will fill in the fields below to match the current value of your shopping cart. This is useful for when no haggling is involved. If you don’t want to spend the standard cost on the items (for example, if you made a successful haggling check), then you can adjust those values however you want.

At the bottom of the checkout page is an option to select a container. This is useful if you want to put your newly purchased items into a container, such as a backpack. For now, we’ll leave this as “None” since we don’t have a container yet.

Clicking purchase will then add the items to your character and into the specified container. If you already have items matching the items purchased, then the quantity will be increased accordingly.

 Actions

Once the items have been added to your character, you can then do many things with them. Clicking on the item will reveal a panel with the details of the item. At the bottom of the page is a button that has many options that will allow you to do something with it. The type of item and its current state will determine what you can do with it. For example, a dagger that is unequipped will have the following options.

For this example, you can equip it, drop it, move it to a container, sell it, or discard it. Weapons also have the ability to be poisoned or silvered. For now, lets equip it. Clicking on the Equip action will reveal a panel giving you the option of where you want to equip it. For the dagger, you can equip it to your main hand or off hand.

If an item is already equipped in that slot, it will show up on this panel as well letting you know that it will be unequipped. While you unequip it, you can specify which container you want to put it in, saving you a step of having to organize that later.

Once the item is equipped, it will appear in the Equipped section on your Equipment page.

You can equip one item into each equipment slot.

Organizing Equipment

Another thing that Squire can help you with is keeping your equipment organized. Instead of just having one large list, you can organize things into containers. For example, you probably want to keep your arrows in your quiver. To do this, click on your Arrow item and in the actions at the bottom, click “Move”.

From here you will see a screen where you can specify which container you want to move the item to and how many of the item you want to move. You can adjust the quantity by dragging the slider left or right or by manually inputting the quantity in the input field. Clicking “Continue” will then move the item to the container.

 Weight Calculation

Another thing that Squire does for you automatically is calculate the weight of everything you are carrying. If you are carrying too much equipment, your character might be slowed down due to the encumbrance penalties. If you don’t want to use the encumbrance rules, you can turn that feature off through the Equipment page settings.

Here you can also choose to include the weight of your currency. This will count the number of coins you have and use the weight of each coin. Your weight carried is displayed on the character’s Basic page.

Dropping Items

Because of weight limits, it might be advantageous to drop items during combat, such as dropping your backpack so that you can maneuver more freely. To drop an item, open the item details and click “Drop” from the actions at the bottom of the panel.

From here you will be able to specify the container you want to drop it into. This will only allow you to drop it into a container that is already dropped. For example, if you have a chest that you aren’t carrying around, you can drop the item into the chest. From this panel, you can also specify the amount of the item you want to drop.

Once the item has been dropped, it will display on your character’s Equipment page in the Dropped section. Items that are dropped don’t count towards your weight carried.

If you drop an item that is a container and has items in it, the items in the container will be dropped along with the container. The items will remain in the container. If you want to pick up an item, click on the dropped item and choose the “Pickup” action at the bottom of the panel. You will go through a similar screen as the drop panel.

Discarding Equipment

If you no longer want an item, you have a few options. Your first option is to discard it. To do this open the item details and click “Discard” from the actions. If you have more than one of the items to be discarded, you can specify how many you want to discard.

Once discarded, the item will be removed from your inventory.

Selling Equipment

Another option is to sell the item. To do this, click on the “Sell” action from the options at the bottom of the details panel.

From here you can specify the quantity that you want to sell and how much you want to sell it for. Clicking on the “Match” button will match the standard price of the item. If you want to adjust the value, you can do so by typing the number in the input field. Clicking continue will adjust your character’s wealth accordingly and then remove the item from your inventory.

Attacking

The most common thing to do with your equipment is to attack with it. To attack with an item, click on the “Attack” action from the details panel.

From here you will be able to see the attack modifier and damages. If the item has the Finesse property, then you can select your Strength or Dexterity to modify the rolls. It will default to the value that has the larger modifier. If the weapon has the Versatile property, then you will be allowed to choose between using one or two hands. The damages will adjust accordingly based on the item's versatile damage. Clicking “Continue” will continue with the attack with the selected settings and roll the attack and damages for you. The results will appear in a modal for you.

Clicking on the “Details” button will expand the results to show you all the details of the roll. If you close the details and need to see the results again, you can view your roll log from the character’s menu. To access this, open the menu in the top left and select “Roll Log”.

From here you will see your most recent rolls. Clicking on them will reveal the details of the rolls as you had seen before. The roll log will contain all types of rolls and not just attack and damages. For example, you will see ability saves, skill checks, and concentration checks.

If you are attacking with an item that uses ammunition, such as a Longbow, Squire will help you manage your ammo for you.

When you choose the “Shoot” action from the details panel, you will be presented with a Shoot screen similar to the Attack screen. The main difference here is that you will be able to choose which ammo to use. Clicking continue will show the attack and damage results and will also expend one of your pieces of ammunition. Once you’ve used all of your ammo, the Continue button will be disabled.

All expended ammo will appear in the Expended section on your character’s Equipment page.

Clicking on the expended ammo item will allow you to pickup the ammo, similar to the normal Pickup action panel.

Other Categories

Another category of item that Squire supports is Mounts and Vehicles.

These items will appear in their own section on the character’s Equipment page. These items also act as containers and you can store items on them like you would a backpack. Items in these containers won’t count towards your character’s weight carried.
