We're nearing the end. Less than two weeks to go. To help deliver the alpha/beta keys, we'll be using BackerKit to send out surveys. Here you'll be able to finalize your selections and fill out any questions I might need from you, depending on your reward level. Keep an eye out for that after the campaign ends. 

I'm getting really excited to hear all of your feedback once you get your hands on this!

Feature Preview: Feature Tags and Active Features

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with tagging features and activating features. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Feature Tagging

Just like with spells, you can add tags to features. The tag configuration for the features is identical to spells so I’ll save you the headache of reading how to do that. If you want to see that again, make sure to checkout the update for Spell Tagging. Instead, here are just a few screenshots of feature tagging.

Like with spells, you can turn the display of the tags off. From the Features page, open the menu and select “Settings”. From here you can turn the tags off.

Active Features

If a feature has modifiers, then it needs to be activated in order to apply the modifiers to the character. For example, a Monk’s Unarmored Movement feature will increase a character’s speed while the character isn’t wearing any armor. There currently isn’t a way to configure the scenarios that the feature should apply, so a user needs to “activate” the feature. When a feature can be activated and currently isn’t, the feature will have a light-gray bar on the left side of the card.

To activate the feature, click on the feature card and select activate on the feature details panel. Once the feature is active, the bar on the left will change to green.

Once the feature is active, the modifiers will be applied automatically. For the Unarmored Movement example, you can navigate to the character’s speed details and you will see that the modifier is applied.

Feature Preview: Features

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with creating and using new features. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Feature Configurations

To add a new feature, open the home screen menu and select “Features”. On the following screen select “New Feature”.

You will be presented with a feature configuration screen. Here you can enter things like the name, description, and which class, race, or background the feature belongs to.

The next section of the configuration screen allows you to set the feature’s limited uses. You can configure it to recharge whenever a character takes a short or long rest. You can also set the limited uses to increase as the character gains levels.

The last two sections allow you to configure the damages and modifiers, just like you can do with spells.

Once the feature has been saved, it will appear in the features list. Clicking on the feature will show you details of the feature and will allow you to edit, duplicate, and delete it.

Another way to create a feature is to go to the class, race, or background you want to add the feature to. At the bottom of the page, you will see all of the features assigned to that class.

Clicking “Add Feature” will reveal a side panel which will allow you to fill in the details of the feature, same as in the other configuration screen.

At the bottom of the panel, you can page through the different sections to get to the limited use, damage, and modifier configurations.

Clicking on a feature in the class feature list will reveal the details. Here you can edit, duplicate, and delete it just like in the other configuration section.

Jus to note, the screenshots for these configurations are all on desktop. You can do these configurations on mobile too, but it’s a lot easier to type everything using a full keyboard instead of using the one on your phone.

Using Features

When you create your character, you have to keep track of all of your features. If you don’t know what features you have or all of the details of each of them, it’s really hard to take full advantage of what your character can do. With paper, this means taking a lot of time copying the details and having a large packet to carry around with you every session. With Squire none of this is the case. Instead, you can quickly add everything you’ll ever need to know about your character, and it takes up no extra space.

When you first create your character, you will be prompted to add your new features to your character. Clicking yes will search for all the features that are applicable to your character based on your class, subclass, race, and background.

Once you’ve added your features, you can see them on your character’s Feature page.

If you need to manually add features, you can click the “Add Features” button on the bottom of the page. Doing this will reveal the feature selection panel, similar to the spell selection panel.

You can filter down the features by class, race, background, and a few other things. Only the features that haven’t already been added to your character will be displayed.

Once the features have be filtered, you can select the features you want to add to your character.

Clicking on a feature will show the details of the feature. From here you can select the feature to be added by clicking “Add”.

Once the feature has been selected it will be highlighted yellow. Clicking “Add” from here will add all of the selected features to your character.

Once a feature is added to your character, you can click on the feature card to view the details. If the feature has any damages or limited uses associated with it, you can click “Use”. Doing this will roll the damages for you and/or use one of the limited uses.

Once the feature has been used, you can see the uses remaining in the feature card. If there are no uses remaining, it will be highlighted in red. Whenever you take a long rest or a short rest, the feature’s limited use count would reset if it is configured to do so.

You can manually reset the feature’s uses by clicking the “Reset” button on the feature details panel. You can also reset all of your features in bulk by clicking on “Limited Use” from the Features page menu.

From here you can see all of your features that have limited uses, and you can manually adjust them. Clicking “Reset” will set all features to the maximum number of uses.

Feature Preview: Health Management

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with Health Management. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Health Management

On the basic page, your character’s health will be displayed in the top left. Here you will be able to see your current health and your max health.

As your health level changes, the bar at the bottom of the HP card will adjust. While you are in the top third, the bar will be green. When you’re in the middle third, the bar will be yellow. And when you’re in the bottom third, the bar will be red. Also once you are at or below half health, a “Bloody” tag will be applied to the card.

If you don’t want to see the colored bar, you can turn that off in the Misc Settings. You can find the Misc Settings by opening the Character Context Menu in the top left and clicking “Settings”. From there scroll to the bottom until you find “Misc” and expand that section.

To adjust your current health, click on the HP card. Here you will find what looks like a calculator.

Clicking on the numbers will cause the number to be displayed above. Clicking on the “/2” will cause the value to be cut in half and round down. Clicking on “*2” will cause the number to be doubled. If you’re on a desktop, you can use your keyboard to enter the numbers. You don’t have to use your mouse to interact with the buttons.

After you’ve finished entering the values, you can click one of three buttons: damage, heal, and temp. As you click these buttons, your health will be adjusted accordingly. You can do multiple adjustments here too in case you were attacked by a creature with multi-attack. As you enter new values, you can see the history in the section below.

If you are concentrating on a spell and you take damage, you are supposed to roll a concentration check. It is really easy to forget to do this, but with Squire this is just another thing that is done automatically for you. Whenever you apply a damage amount, the Concentration DC will be calculated for you and it will roll the check automatically. A notification will appear from the top of the screen telling you if you succeeded or failed on the check.

Whenever you take enough damage to reduce you character to zero, you will start making death saves. You can click the “Roll” button to have the app roll for you, or you can manually check the save boxes yourself. Whenever you take damage, a death save failure will be applied automatically.

Back on the basic page, you can see your current death saves on the HP card.

From the health panel, if you click on the gear icon in the top left, you will be directed to the health configuration panel. Here you can adjust things manually in the input fields.

You can also adjust your current hit dice and change your death save modifier.

There are also several settings that you can change to toggle features related to the health panel.

Feature Preview: Spell Tagging, Spell Slots, and Spellcasting Ability

Today we are going to show you how Squire helps you with Spell Tagging, Spell slots, and adjusting your Spellcasting Ability. In case you missed the previous feature previews, here they are:

Spell Tagging

Sometimes you might want to categorize your spells, or you might want to flag a spell that you want to learn in the future. An easy way to do this is by “Tagging”. From the spell page menu, select tagging.

Here you can assign tags to spells and give them tags names. Expanding a section will allow you to select the spells that you want to add the tag to.

Clicking on the colored circle will allow you to change the color of the tag. You can select from millions of colors. You can also revert to one of the default colors by selecting one of the colors in the tray at the bottom.

Another way to add tags to a spell is by opening the spell details and clicking on the edit icon next to the “Tags” label. From here you will see a list of the tags and you can select the tags that you want to apply to it.

Once a spell has been tagged, you will see the tags on the spell card along the bottom. The spell card can also show a few other things. For example, the green bar on the left indicates that the spell is active. The lightbulb icon indicates that the spell is being concentrated on. The check mark icon indicates that the spell is prepared. You can also see the level of the spell. Spells that are always prepared will display a bookmark icon and spells that don’t count towards your prepared limit will show a “no” icon.

If you want to tag spells to be used in filtering, but don’t want the tags to display on the spell cards, you can turn off the display of the tags in the Spell Settings. If you don’t want the active spell to be highlighted, you can turn that off in the same place.

Spell Slots

As mentioned before, Squire will help you with your spell slots. Casting spells will use one of your spell slots automatically. Whenever you take a long rest, your spell slots will reset automatically as well. Sometimes you may need to manually adjust your spell slots because you didn’t mean to cast a spell, or you have some kind of feature that allows you to regain spell slots.

To manually adjust your spell slots, click on the Spell Slots card on the Spells page. You will see a new panel slide in that will show you your spell slots. You can manually drag the sliders left or right to adjust them or you can set the number in the input. You can also click “Reset” at the bottom to reset everything to the max.

If you have a scenario where you need to change the maximum number of spell slots you have, you can click the gear icon in the top left and the following slide in will allow you to adjust each slot. Clicking “Clear” will remove all miscellaneous modifiers.

Spellcasting Ability

Each class has their own spellcasting ability. When you select that class for your character, the spellcasting ability for that class will be used when you cast a spell assigned to that class. However, there might be a homebrew feature that allows you to use a different spellcasting ability for your class. Squire supports this and allows you to change your spellcasting ability as needed.

On the Spell page, click on the “Ability” card for your class. From here you can change the ability by selecting a new option from the dropdown.

You can also adjust your spellcasting attack modifier or give yourself advantage or disadvantage by clicking on the Spell Attack card.

You can also adjust your spellcasting save dc by clicking on the Spell Save DC card.
